Isabelle Duterte is still 15 years old. Not 17. She was born on January 26, 2002. She will have her debut in 2020 yet. Not in 2018. The Mayor and his family are so full of LIES and DECEPTIONS. Do they know what HONESTY means? π
"Now we come to Isabelle Duterte. She had an extensive photo shoot inside the presidential palace. She tweeted she was 17.
But then the official Davao city government website clearly states she is only turning 16 next year. Which is an age that is not celebrated in the country as a rite of passage. And therefore does not seem to merit that kind of grand celebration with four designer gowns, one of them very, very expensive.
If the city government website is correct, then I suspect that the recent Palace pictorial and her 'debut' next year are really intended to launch her career as a movie star.
You might again say, this is such a small thing.
And I would reply, this is all about honesty and truth-telling. If Malacanang can’t be honest in small things, what about big things?"

How old is Isabelle Duterte?
And why is this important?
DECEMBER 17, 2017 By RaΓ―ssa Robles
I’m confused.
All the news stories regarding the photo shoot of President Rodrigo Duterte’s grand daughter Isabelle say she is turning 18 this January. Hence, her posing in four expensive designer gowns was a “pre-debut” pictorial for that very important date.
Since I wasn’t exactly sure when her birthday was, I googled her age.
And this is what came out: (Please open link for the photo. - VOG)
This can’t be right, I told myself. Maybe Google made a mistake because no one inside the presidential palace has made a clarification on her age.
Besides, Isabelle Duterte herself tweeted that she was 17 right now. (Photo can be found in the link. - VOG)
So I searched some more and went to the Davao City government website where Ms. Duterte’s father Paolo is the vice mayor and her aunt Sara the mayor.
And this is what the official website of the Davao City government stated:
THAT ISABELLE DUTERTE WAS BORN ON JANUARY 26, 2002.
Which makes her only 15 years old today.
Now, Duterte supporters are sure to let up a howl and even those critical of President Duterte must be asking themselves why am I bothering with the real age of a minor.
Let me explain.
You see, in all my years covering politics I have learned that LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT.
Yes, it is the small things that make Filipino politicians stumble. Not just the big things.
For instance, when I researched my first book on the late President Elpidio Quirino, I learned that it was the accusation that he had a golden orinola (piss pot) that scandalized the population. In the impeachment complaint filed against Quirino, the orinola was one of the grounds cited for his impeachment. It turned out that the piss pot was made of stainless steel, a new alloy then that made the pot more expensive than the usual pot.
Another ground cited against Quirino was what you might even say was a small thing – that he was charging the piano lessons of his daughter Victoria as expense of the presidential palace. It wasn’t true, of course, but that stuck too.
In the case of Mar Roxas, the presidential candidate of the Liberal Party in 2016, one of the negatives hurled against him was that he had yelled at a golf club employee after being told he should pay for the use of the greens by his guest. The incident made people question his ability to handle crisis.
Now we come to Isabelle Duterte. She had an extensive photo shoot inside the presidential palace. She tweeted she was 17.
But then the official Davao city government website clearly states she is only turning 16 next year. Which is an age that is not celebrated in the country as a rite of passage. Filipino protesters slam martial law, killings under Duterte

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Thousands of protesters marked the anniversary of the 1972 martial law declaration by late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos with an outcry against what they say is the current president's authoritarian tendencies and his brutal crackdown on illegal drugs.
Hundreds of riot police deployed to secure the marches and rallies, which are expected to be among the largest against President Rodrigo Duterte since he took office last year.
Pro-Duterte followers also staged rallies in Manila and police say they would guard against possible confrontations.
Duterte has warned he would use force or expand nationwide his martial law declaration in the country's south if anti-government protesters threaten public order. He placed the entire southern third of the largely Roman Catholic nation under martial law in May to deal with a bloody siege by pro-Islamic State group militants in southern Marawi city that has dragged on for nearly four months.
Marcos' martial law era, which ended in 1981, had been marked by massive human rights violations and muzzling of civil liberties.
According to left-wing group Karapatan, "Duterte and his security cluster have utilized narratives and tactics straight out of Marcos's playbook of repression, repeating and justifying rights violations, with increasing frequency and intensity.
Known for bombastic remarks, Duterte has said activists can stage street protests without government permits, and that even communist guerrillas can join as long as they don't bring their guns. He said he was also ready to turn in his resignation to Congress anytime if the military agrees.
He warned protesters not to break the law. "I will not hesitate to use force even if it would mean my downfall as president of this country, remember that," Duterte said Friday on state TV.
Waving red flags and carrying placards that read "Stop the Killings," left-wing groups started to mass up in three Manila areas, including at the foot of a bridge leading to the presidential palace. A few thousands marched at a university area, yelling "Never again, never again to martial law." They planned to gather later Friday at a park by Manila Bay for the main protest. Rallies at the nearby U.S. Embassy have been prohibited by police.
Another group of protesters were to stage a separate rally at the Commission on Human Rights, which has been repeatedly denounced by Duterte for raising an alarm over his police-led campaign against illegal drugs that has left thousands of suspects dead.
Duterte's dominant allies in the House of Representatives initially voted to reduce the commission's annual budget to 1,000 pesos ($20) but reconsidered the decision late Wednesday amid an outcry and after the human rights chief met congressional leaders.
Washington and European Union officials, along with the United Nations and human rights watchdogs, have expressed alarm over the drug killings in the Philippines, sparking expletives-laden outbursts from Duterte. The unorthodox president, however, has remained popular in his crime-weary country, helped by his common-guy demeanor and populist rhetoric.
Duterte said Wednesday he has ordered law enforcers to kill his own children, two of whom serve as mayor and vice mayor of his southern home city, if they're involved in illegal drugs.
"You can just kill them so the people can't say anything," Duterte said. "I will protect the police who will kill you, if that is true."

5 interesting ways to share your brand story
Jeremy Durant
By Jeremy Durant
May 17, 2017
This article and expertise was originally published on Bop Design.
Telling your brand story is more than just slapping dates together on an About Us page and throwing it up on the website with a stock image. Your brand story should be a major differentiator, something that sets you apart from your competition and compels your prospects to partner with you. It’s an opportunity to not talk about your products and services, but to talk about the real value of partnering with your firm.
When it comes to B2B branding and storytelling, there are a variety of ways to tell your brand story in a way that engages your target audience. Let’s look at five interesting ways to share your company’s brand story.
Reveal your history
Your company was founded with purpose and that purpose was not simply to make money. The main purpose was to meet a need. An intriguing way to share your B2B brand story is by revealing the history behind the founding of your company. Answer questions like:
Why did we create this business?
What drove our success through the years?
How did we adapt to the market?
What needs did we focus on?
How did we expand or grow to meet the needs of more customers?
By building a story through the retelling of history, you draw your target audience in and reveal how the values of your company and your focus on the customer’s needs have driven your business. It’s a compelling method for letting your prospects know that they are the center of your business.
Showcase your founders
Many B2B companies are built on the drive, passion, and entrepreneurial spirit of a founder or founders. Particularly in the United States, we are obsessed with hearing the story of a successful entrepreneur who was driven by a passion, whether it’s a passion for innovation, customer service, technology, or knowledge. Telling your brand story by shining the spotlight on the founder(s) is a strategic way to craft an emotional connection with your audience. Answer questions such as:
What is their background/expertise?
What event(s) compelled them to found a company?
What was/is their vision for the company?
How do/did they interact with clients?
What are their main professional values?
Showcasing the founders of a company puts a human face behind a corporate entity and makes your brand relatable. This is particularly compelling if your company is older and the founders aren’t involved or running the brand any longer. This is essentially going back to basics and focusing on the genesis of your B2B brand.
Build a timeline
There may be major events or accomplishments in your brand’s history that will resonate with your ideal target market. Weaving these events together is a great way to tell your brand story. A visual representation of the events arranged as a timeline is an easy to use, appealing way to convey the founding of your company, as well as major accomplishments or changes over the course of your brand’s history. Answer questions like:
What innovations did we bring to the industry?
Did we pioneer a technology or service?
What prestigious industry awards did we win?
What is our contribution to the industry?
Did we have significant periods of growth/change?
As you build your timeline (which doesn’t need to be extensive), think about the events or accomplishments that build credibility with your audience and establish you as the clear authority in the field. B2B branding should always include the audience as an active participant in the storytelling. Keep this in mind so you don’t alienate them.
Turn to your customers
If it wasn’t for your customers, you’d be out of business. This is a simple truth that you should always come back to in your branding and marketing. For many B2B firms, the customers are essential to building your brand. Their needs shape your service or product offerings. When it comes to the B2B industries, it’s less of a client-vendor relationship and more of a partnership. A cool way to share the story of your brand is to turn to your customers, their needs, and how your firm worked with them to provide solutions. Tell your story by telling the story of your customers. Answer questions such as:
What problems have we helped solve?
Are their specific cases where we have made a significant impact for a client(s)?
How do we help our clients be successful?
How do our values positively impact our clients?
What is our mission statement?
When has our service delivery showed exemplary results?
Where has customer service driven new processes and procedures?
Potential clients want to know what you bring to the table and what your brand is all about. A captivating brand story is told by real client partnerships and demonstrates innovative solutions.
Feature your employees
Your company may not have an extensive history, a ton of client case studies, or a memorable founder – but you always have your employees. Your employees are essentially your brand warriors. If they do a wonderful job of representing your brand and create loyal, dedicated clients – create your brand story around them, their attitudes, and their accomplishments. Focus on answering questions like:
How do our employees exemplify our brand?
What actions or attitudes do our clients rave about?
What positive feedback on employees have clients provided?
Why types of behaviors do our brand promote?
Who is our ideal employee and how do they represent the company?
Just like focusing on the founders, featuring your employees puts a human face on your organization. You are no longer a software company providing solutions to healthcare companies, you are a close partner who evaluates market challenges and provides customized solutions and a friendly face.
Your brand story
When it comes to B2B branding, your brand story is your chance to make a connection with your target audience and strengthen your relationship with your existing clients. It should not be an afterthought. It should be your answer to “Why should we work with you over company X?” Use your brand story to attract, engage, and compel. Be genuine and craft a brand story that your target market wants to read.

North Korea says 2nd ICBM test puts 'entire' US in range

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said Saturday the second flight test of an intercontinental ballistic missile demonstrated his country can hit the U.S. mainland, hours after the launch left analysts concluding that a wide swath of the United States, including Los Angeles and Chicago, is now in range of North Korean weapons.
The Korean Central News Agency said that Kim expressed "great satisfaction" after the Hwasong-14 missile reached a maximum height of 3,725 kilometers (2,314 miles) and traveled 998 kilometers (620 miles) before accurately landing in waters off Japan. The agency said that the test was aimed at confirming the maximum range and other technical aspects of the missile it says was capable of delivering a "large-sized, heavy nuclear warhead."
Analysts had estimated that the North's first ICBM on July 4 could have reached Alaska, and said that the latest missile appeared to extend that range significantly.
Immediately after the launch, U.S. and South Korean forces conducted live-fire exercises. South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-moo called for the deployment of strategic U.S. military assets — which usually means stealth bombers and aircraft carriers — as well as additional launchers of an advanced U.S. anti-missile system.
Japanese government spokesman Yoshihide Suga said the missile, launched late Friday night, flew for about 45 minutes — about five minutes longer than the first. The missile was launched on very high trajectory, which limited the distance it traveled, and landed west of Japan's island of Hokkaido.
The KCNA quoted Kim as saying that the launch reaffirmed the reliability of the country's ICBM system and an ability to fire at "random regions and locations at random times" with the "entire" U.S. mainland now within range. The agency said that the test confirmed important features of the missile system, such as the proper separation of the warhead and controlling its movement and detonation after atmospheric re-entry.
Kim said the launch sent a "serious warning" to the United States, which has been "meaninglessly blowing its trumpet" with threats of war and stronger sanctions, the KCNA said.
On the streets of Pyongyang, North Koreans welcomed the news of their country's latest missile test while state media broadcast images of a projectile launched into the night sky. Kim Jong Un was seen in the company of military commanders near a mobile missile launcher.
"I feel really confident. From now on, we will develop and have the strongest weapons, strategic weapons, so we can safeguard our sovereignty and independence, so that we can end up winning against the imperialists and against America," said Pak Gi Nam, a student. It is normal for North Koreans talking in front of TV cameras to stick to the official version of events.
The North Korean flight data was similar to assessments by the United States, South Korea and Japan.
David Wright, a physicist and co-director of the global security program at the Union of Concerned Scientists, said that if reports of the missile's maximum altitude and flight time are correct, it would have a theoretical range of at least 10,400 kilometers (about 6,500 miles). That means it could have reached Los Angeles, Denver or Chicago, depending on variables such as the size and weight of the warhead that would be carried atop such a missile in an actual attack.
President Donald Trump issued a statement condemning the missile test as a threat to the world, and rejecting North Korea's claim that nuclear weapons ensure its security. "In reality, they have the opposite effect," he said.
Trump said the weapons and tests "further isolate North Korea, weaken its economy, and deprive its people." He vowed to "take all necessary steps" to ensure the security of the U.S. and its allies.
Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said he told U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in a phone call that the second missile test greatly increased the threat from Pyongyang. He said two sides agreed to consider all means necessary to exert the utmost pressure on North Korea. They reiterated calls for new sanctions and to work closely together with South Korea along with efforts by China and Russia.
China, meanwhile, urged its ally North Korea to abide by U.N. Security Council resolutions and halt any moves that could escalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Washington and its allies have watched with growing concern as Pyongyang has made significant progress toward its goal of having all of the U.S. within range of its missiles to counter what it labels as U.S. aggression. There are other hurdles, including building nuclear warheads to fit on those missiles and ensuring reliability. But many analysts have been surprised by how quickly leader Kim Jong Un has developed North Korea's nuclear and missile programs despite several rounds of U.N. Security Council sanctions that have squeezed the impoverished country's economy.
Trump has said he will not allow North Korea to obtain an ICBM that can deliver a nuclear warhead. But this week, the Defense Intelligence Agency reportedly concluded that the North will have a reliable ICBM capable of carrying a nuclear weapon as early as next year, in an assessment that trimmed two years from the agency's earlier estimate.
The French Foreign Ministry condemned the launch and called for "strong and additional sanctions" by the United Nations and European Union. "Only maximal diplomatic pressure might bring North Korea to the negotiating table," the ministry said in a statement.
"This is a 4G threat: global, grave, given and growing," France's U.N. Ambassador Francois Delattre told The Associated Press. That's why we call for a firm and quick reaction including the adoption of strong additional sanctions by the Security Council."
A spokesman for Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that Dunford met at the Pentagon with the commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific, Adm. Harry Harris, to discuss U.S. military options in light of North Korea's missile test.
The spokesman, Navy Capt. Greg Hicks, said Dunford and Harris placed a phone call to Dunford's South Korean counterpart, Gen. Lee Sun Jin. Dunford and Harris "expressed the ironclad commitment to the U.S.-Republic of Korea alliance," Hicks said, referring to the U.S. defense treaty that obliges the U.S. to defend South Korea.
Abe, too, said Japan would cooperate closely with the U.S., South Korea and other nations to step up pressure on North Korea to halt its missile programs.
The Hwasong 14 ICBM test-fired earlier this month was also launched at a very steep angle, a technique called lofting, and reached a height of more than 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) before splashing down in the ocean 930 kilometers (580 miles) away. Analysts said that missile could be capable of reaching most of Alaska or possibly Hawaii if fired in an attacking trajectory.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the missile was launched from North Korea's northern Jagang province near the border with China. President Moon Jae-in presided over an emergency meeting of the National Security Council, which called for an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council and stronger sanctions on North Korea.
July 27 is a major national holiday in North Korea called Victory in the Fatherland Liberation War Day, marking the day when the armistice was signed ending the 1950-53 Korean War. That armistice is yet to be replaced with a peace treaty, leaving the Korean Peninsula technically in a state of war.

Establish a strong platform
Choose your income streams
Now let’s cover each of those steps in more depth.
1. Start a blog
Clearly, if you want to make money blogging, you must have a blog. If you don’t already have one, no worries. Here are easy instructions explaining how to get your blog up and running.
Can I start a blog for free and make money?
This is a common question and the answer is yes. However, I would caution you against it. The reason is, when you use a free service, you don’t have full control over your blog—the free service you are using does. This can be risky, especially if you will rely on your blog for income. A self-hosted WordPress blog is my recommendation and can be started for as little as $5-$10 a month.

2. Create useful content
Once you have a blog, write useful content. Draw from your expertise & experience. Write informative posts and articles about your chosen topic. Make your content excellent.
What should I blog about?
If you’re stumped, here are ideas for posts readers will respond to:
Solve a problem
Relieve a fear
Teach something new
Explain how to reach a goal
Entertain
In order to make money, you must have blog visitors. But in order to have blog visitors, you must have content worthy of a visit.

3. Build relationships with others on social media and around the web
At the same time you are creating valuable content, start building genuine and sincere relationships with others on social media and around the web.
Which social media sites should I use?
With so many social media sites, it’s hard to know where to start.
As I explain in this post, my advice is to think about where your target audience hangs out on social media and start there.
Is your blog for moms of preschoolers? Facebook and Pinterest might be best. Is your blog for business executives? LinkedIn and Twitter are probably safe bets.
Other than being active on social media, here are more ideas: participate in Facebook Groups, comment on other blogs or join forums. Find or start a mastermind group. Reach out to people in your niche by tweeting them.
Find people who could use the information you provide. Get to know them, interact, be friendly and helpful by offering no-strings-attached tidbits of your expertise. Word about you spreads best through people who know, like & trust you.

4. Establish a strong platform
Keep growing in the knowledge of your craft so the content you produce gets increasingly deep and valuable. Use your blog to get exposure, build authority, gain trust and be helpful.
In addition, use this time to think about the type of reputation you want to build. How do you want others to see you? How do you want them to experience your site? What do you want to be known for? This is all part of your branding.

5. Choose your income streams
Once you’ve started your blog, created some excellent content, built some relationships and given thought to your branding and reputation, start thinking about ways to generate blogging income.
There are many ways you can do this. In the rest of the post, I will outline 5 main types of income along with many specific ideas for each.

Things you should know about making money blogging
Much of the money bloggers make doesn’t come from blogging directly. A blog is a platform or online home base. After proving their trustworthiness, bloggers use their blogs as springboards to launch other products & services that bring in income. Examples are ebooks, books, speaking gigs, products, ecourses, etc.
If you want to make money blogging, it takes time, creativity and hustle—a lot of all three—but it’s absolutely doable.
Each blogger has a different combination of income streams. There is no “right” way and that’s the beauty of it. There are endless possibilities. Find a combination that works for you or make up your own.
Income streams ebb and flow, so successful bloggers are constantly exploring new ways to make money. The key to making good money as a blogger is to have multiple streams of income. Even small trickles of money coming from various sources over time can add up.
The best way to start monetizing is to let it happen organically. Hopefully you are blogging about something you enjoy. As you grow, monetize (make money) in ways that would most suit you and your audience. For example, blogging about knitting? Sell knitting patterns. Blogging about fly fishing? Sell your services as a fly fishing guide. Blogging about being a preschool teacher? Sell preschool curriculum.

Streams of income used by bloggers
Following is a list of income streams bloggers adopt, broken down into five main categories:
Advertising
Affiliate Marketing
Digital Products
Physical Products
Services
How to make money blogging: advertising
Unlike many of the other categories, advertising is all about generating income directly from your blog, website or other digital asset(s).
Display Ads
Display ads are graphics or images similar to billboards or ads in a magazine. Typically they are positioned on your site in the sidebar, header, footer or within your content. Sometimes they are referred to as banner ads.
Ads on your site are meant to complement your blog’s content, making them attractive and relevant to visitors. Advertisers hope that your visitors will then click on those images to explore and purchase the products or services they offer.
Display ads are often provided through ad networks. Ad networks are companies that connect advertisers with publishers (bloggers). Ad networks act as a middle man between advertisers and publishers, negotiating partnership details between the two. The ad network takes a cut from the partnership profit. Ad networks are attractive to many bloggers because they take the hassle out of display advertising.
Some ad networks, like Google AdSense, are relatively easy to get into and are easy to set up. Other ad networks though, are selective in who they accept. Examples of ad networks are Google AdSense, Blogads, BlogHer, Beacon Ads, Federated Media, Sovrn, (formerly Lijit), Media.net, Rivit and Sway. There are many more, so once you get involved in your niche’s community of bloggers, you’ll soon hear of others.
Can you really make money with Google AdSense?
This is a very popular question, and a good one. Google AdSense is probably the most popular ad network. No doubt you have seen Google AdSense ads as you have surfed the web.
Adsense ads come in various shapes and forms. Sometimes they are images and sometimes they are text. They show up in sidebars, headers, footers, within posts and anywhere else website owners choose to display them.
Adsense is a good place for beginning bloggers to start if they want to pursue display ads because it’s so easy to set up.
However, if you want to make really good money with Google AdSense, you either have to be in a unique niche in which advertisers will pay a lot of money for clicks on their ads (hard to find), or you have to have a lot of traffic (hard to get, especially for beginners).
For these reasons, I don’t recommend AdSense (or display advertising in general) as the main pursuit for new bloggers.
Tips:
To apply for Google AdSense or other ad networks, contact the ad network via their website (choose one from above).
If you want to get an idea of pricing and traffic for popular blogs, sites like Beacon Ads and Federated Media are places you can do that.
If you’re using CPC/PPC ads (cost per click/pay per click), check out Google’s recommendations for best ad placement on your site. It’s important that your content doesn’t get drowned out by ads. Google has indicated sites with too many ads above the fold may be penalized in search. If you’re not sure what above the fold is on your site, use this tool.
As always, experiment. Experiment with ad placement to get the right combination on your site.
Further reading: Jason from ProBlogSchool explains ad networks in great detail in his post Ads 102: How to Make Money Using Ad Networks.
Private Ads
Private ads are similar to display ads in that they also come in the form of buttons or graphics and usually appear in the sidebars of blogs. They are unique in that there is no middle man (ad network) to negotiate the partnership. Partnerships are arranged directly between a blogger and an individual, small business or company.
Initial contact can be made by the blogger or by the advertiser. Be clear on what’s expected by both parties. Not sure what to charge? Look around to see what others in your niche charge. You can often find this information on a blog’s advertising page or media kit.
Don’t just throw up an advertising page and expect advertisers to come calling. Go to them. Not sure how to do that? Find other blogs like yours that are your size or slightly larger. See who is advertising on their site. Contact those companies and ask if they’d like to advertise on your site too. Create a pitch and make it a win-win. Check out iHeartOrganizing‘s advertising page as an example.
Tip for private ads on your blog: If you have ads in your sidebar, keep them full. Instead of displaying a blank box with “Advertise here” fill it with an affiliate graphic (see Affiliate Marketing below for more). Crystal Paine puts it well when she says, “[Blank ad spots] scream, ‘My advertising space isn’t valuable enough for people to want to buy so I instead have this big blank box!'”
Giveaways & Reviews
If you’ve read blogs for any length of time, you’ve surely seen a review or giveaway and maybe participated yourself. A company supplies a product to a blogger to be reviewed and/or given away to readers.
A word about giveaways…
I list giveaways here because some bloggers charge to run giveaways in addition to the expected free product to keep for themselves. There are varying opinions about whether or not one should be compensated for giveaways.
As I see it, it largely depends on whether the product is for marketing purposes or for advertising purposes. Companies use marketing to spread the word about their product or service.
With advertising, a company makes a deal with another party to help them spread the word. Companies expect to pay for advertising. For example, a company may market their product by handing out free t-shirts. Because you like the t-shirt, you take it and wear it. You obviously wouldn’t charge the company when you wore their t-shirt.
But I think a giveaway on a blog would often fall in the category of advertising. Yes, the company you’re working with may give you a product to use (indeed, they should!). However, they are also asking you to provide a service to them. After all, you are spending your valuable time fielding their emails, writing a post (or posts), following up with giveaway entrants, etc.
If there is nothing else you’re getting from the partnership except for the free product, this service should be compensated in my opinion.
Further reading: Amy from Mom Advice wrote a post about reviews a few years back that still offers good tips.
Tips for reviews & giveaways:
Products you receive for free need to be reported as income on your taxes so keep excellent records and make sure the products you are accepting for review are really ones you want to pay taxes on later.
Don’t be afraid to negotiate. This is your blog. No need to just take what you’re offered on the first round. Make it a win-win for both.
If you don’t want to do a review for a company, ask the company if they’d like to buy ad space instead. Mention that they’ll still get a spot in front of your readers.
Newsletter/Podcast Sponsorships
If you have an email newsletter or podcast, you can accept advertising just as you would on your blog. You can reach out to potential advertisers, tell them how they would benefit from advertising with you and pitch your idea.

Dumas is just a regular guy who consistently makes 6 figures per month from his podcast. Not only does he show you how to launch a podcast, but he covers making money from your podcast as well.
Sponsored Posts
Writing a sponsored post means you work with a company and write a post about their product or service. Be upfront and disclose your relationship to your readers.
Keep sponsored posts to a minimum so you don’t turn off readers. If you read blogs, you’ve probably seen sponsored posts. They can be spotted by the disclosure stating something like, “This post was sponsored by [company] but all opinions are mine.”
Find examples of sponsored post details and rates on Life Your Way.
Underwritten Posts or Series
Underwritten posts differ from sponsored posts in that the post topic is about whatever you want it to be (as opposed to the company’s product/service), but an advertiser pays to get a “Brought to you by…” type note in the post.
Anticipate the posts you think will get a lot of response, and pitch companies with an underwritten spot.
An example of an underwritten series is this Christmas Gift Guide at MoneySavingMom.com.
Listen to what others have to say
There are bloggers who have been quite successful with advertising and who’ve shared what they’ve learned.
Check out Elite Blog Academy (enrollment opens once or twice a year but you can sign up at the bottom of the homepage to be notified). This course deals with getting more traffic and therefore increasing your advertising revenue. Read my full review of this course here.

The Niche Site Duel deals with finding the niches in which advertisers pay high rates.
Advertising takeaways
Advertising pros
Many are easy to set up and maintain.
They can be used as a way to get readers used to ads on your site before you gain higher-earning advertisers. In other words, it can eliminate “ad shock” down the road.
Advertising is indeed lucrative for select bloggers.
Advertising cons
Mobile access, popup ad blockers and streamlined browser readers often remove ads from websites, rendering them far less effective.
Good advertising revenue depends on very high traffic or a niche with high-paying keywords (hard to find these days).
Advertising rates have declined over the last few years.
Ads often make a site look spammy and cluttered.
Ads often make a user click away from your blog. For a few cents, is it worth it? You have to decide.
Many readers have developed ad blindness.
Many bloggers have been banned by Google’s Adsense program for no apparent reason. It’s unpredictable.
While it is possible to block certain URLs from showing up in your Adsense ads, sometimes bad ones sneak through. This can be detrimental to your brand and platform.
My advertising advice
Be patient. Wait for the right partnership that won’t make you compromise.
Make sure your advertisers are in line with your values.
Don’t do text links. They are often spammy and looked down upon by Google.
Unless you are an established blogger for whom advertising is already working, this is the income stream I would pursue last. The traffic requirement and low ad rates means your time will be better spent elsewhere.
How to make money blogging: affiliate marketing As an affiliate marketer, you promote someone else’s product or service in a post or elsewhere. You link to that product or service using your unique affiliate link. When, someone clicks through that link and makes a purchase (or completes a desired action set by the company), you earn a commission.
I wrote about affiliate marketing at length in What is Affiliate Marketing? and My Top Affiliate Marketing Tips, so I won’t rehash the details here.
How to make money blogging: digital products
Audio/Video
You can sell music or video that others can use as intros or outros. Try Audio Jungle.
Apps, Plugins or Themes
If you have a knack for code-writing and can write your own themes or plugins, you can sell them at a place like Creative Market. Also, many plugin authors offer their plugins for free but ask for donations.
Domains
Do you have a domain collecting problem? Did you know you could sell them for profit? Try a site like Sedo.
Ecourses/Webinars/Online Workshops
You could do all sorts of things with this type of digital product. You wouldn’t have to go big the first time around. Test the waters by holding a small, local event first. Grow bigger as you learn the ropes and figure out what works and what doesn’t.
Simply pick something you’re good at that other people want to know and teach it! Do it once or twice to refine your presentation and then start charging a small fee to those who want to take your class. Check out how LeadPages uses webinars to sell their product in this free 10-part video series.
Ebooks
Many, many bloggers have written ebooks. I’ve made a healthy chunk selling my own ebook Tell Your Time the last few years. (Here’s why I turned down a traditional book deal in favor of self-publishing.)
I don’t think ebooks sold on blogs (generally) make the same kind of money they did a few years ago, but for some, with very compelling topics and a decent group of supporters who help promote, it can be a good option.
On the other hand, there are many authors making a lot of money selling ebooks on Amazon. The key, they say, is to write multiple books, not just one.
If you want to write your own ebook, check out my series How to Write an Ebook.
One benefit of having an ebook is the ability to participate in ebook bundles which can generate quite a bit of income. Again, it’s about relationships and pooling your resources. See how Stephanie and Erin do it at Ultimate Bundles.

Premium Content & Membership Communities
Insider spaces, one-on-one interaction, VIP rooms. Premium content is just what it sounds like—content that others must pay to access.
This isn’t a new concept, but I do think it will become more and more common. There is free information all over the internet, so in order for this to work, you would have to offer something truly unique—some sort of “insider information,” special access to individuals whose expertise is highly sought after, products or services that go above and beyond the norm, such or special treatment such as one-on-one interaction and coaching.
I’ve experimented with premium content when I created my Useletter Archives (now closed). I now sell my Knowtbook, the answer to the question, “Hey Amy, can I pick your brain?”
Another example of a premium content site is Food Blogger Pro. Bjork started this site after being asked by food bloggers how he and his wife Lindsay built their hugely popular food blog, Pinch of Yum.
Photos
Are you a photographer? Illustrator? Why not sell your photos on a site like Foap or Creative Market?
Selling Blogs & Websites
Many bloggers have sold their blogs or websites for 4-, 5-, 6- and even 7-figure sums.
There is also something called flipping websites where you obtain a small blog or website, grow it and then sell it for profit later. If you want to flip a site, check out Flippa.
And if you want to read about those who have sold their blog, you can read this.
Make money blogging by selling physical products
Books
For many bloggers, their blogs have helped them sell books, both self and traditionally published. I’ve heard over and over again that traditional publishers will not typically consider your manuscript if you don’t have a blog first.
And if you’re a self-published author or a hybrid author (that is, you have both self-published and traditionally-published books), a blog is a great way to sell books.
Conferences, Classes or Special Events
I consider hosting an event like a conference a “physical” product since it involves an exchange of something tangible (in this case, money for a ticket to an experience) and happens in real life (as opposed to an online class). You can also do bigger events like day-long seminars or workshops or even multi-day conferences.
Do not underestimate the work that would go into pulling off one of these events successfully. It’s a huge undertaking, but if you have a background in event planning or are extremely motivated, organized and are good at networking and making connections with companies (sponsors) etc., this might be for you.
In your niche or area of interest, it’s likely there are large, established conferences already. So, try narrowing down your conference topic in order to target a more specific group.
If you’re going to put on a large-scale event, be very clear and very specific in your goals and make sure there’s a strong desire for the information you can provide. And then do it with excellence. The way you would make money, of course, is to charge a fee to attend and/or partner with sponsors to cover your costs (and your salary).
Handmade Products
Are you crafty? Consider selling on Etsy or Handmade at Amazon.
You can set up your own shop for free and it’s simple to get started. It’s not so simple to stand out from the crowd, so that will likely be your biggest challenge.
Here are some tips on how to market your Etsy shop (but would largely apply to Handmade as well).
Manufactured Products
You can sell manufactured products and use your site/blog/newsletter to promote it.
If you create the product yourself, that’s great, but if you don’t know how to create your own product, you can sell someone else’s in your own shop.
If you have an idea for a product you’d like to sell but aren’t sure where to start, this couple tells you how they started selling wedding linens online. Their Online Store Tutorials are particularly helpful.
How to make money advertising: services
Think of this like freelancing. If you have a skill (who doesn’t?), why not offer your service(s) via the internet (a.k.a. virtually)? It does not have to be computer related. Think of ways you can use your already-gained skills in your favor and put them online.
Administrative Assistant
App Developer
Audio/Video Editor
Coach
Concierge/Personal Assistant
Consultant
Cook – This isn’t completely virtual as you would have to deliver food, but you could still use the internet to get exposure. Here’s an example.
Counselor
Designer – Check out Minted’s Design Challenge for a place to start.
Digital Freelancer – Pick a task you can do quickly that others “will get around to someday.” For example, digitizing their boxes of photos.
Photo Editor
Project Manager
Social Media Manager
Software Writer
Speaker
Trainer
Transcriptionist
Tutor
Visioneer – Have people send you pictures of their room/house/yard and offer suggestions for improvement. Post before & after photos on your blog.
Web Builder – If you’ve set up your own site, contact local brick & mortar businesses and see if you can set up theirs. Barter services to get your feet wet, gain experience and build a portfolio.
Web Developer
Writer – The advantage of writing for other sites is that you get to be a part of something that’s already established. Also, you don’t have to worry about the technical aspects of running and maintaining your own site. Keep your ears peeled for contributor opportunities. You could start by guest posting.
I wrote a post called How to Become a Virtual Assistant with tips for anyone wanting to offer their services online.
Further reading: The Bootstrap VA: The Go-Getter’s Guide to Becoming a Virtual Assistant, Getting and Keeping Clients, and More, an ebook by Lisa Morosky. Make it your first business investment. This ebook blew my mind; it’s loaded with tips, resources and step-by-step instruction.
Selling a service is great because the startup costs are low and little to no inventory is required.
The problem is, services are not scaleable. In other words, your business size depends on how much time you have. You only have so much time in your day so you can provide a finite amount of service.
Tips for service providers:
Create a simple brochure-type site with just a few pages: Home, About, Contact, Resume, Services & Pricing, Before and After Photos (if applicable) and Testimonials once you get some.
Participate in forums, comments and other social media platforms and answer questions. Build a reputation as an authority and expert.
Where do you start when you want to make money blogging
Feeling overwhelmed yet? You’re not alone. It is overwhelming.
You should know there are no magic bullets. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for another and vice versa. There are no guaranteed, across-the-board results either. Your mileage may vary. Take the time to think through what might work for you.
What’s your personality?
Are you an introvert? Extrovert? Are you organized and like to work ahead? Are you spontaneous and fly by the seat of your pants? All these questions will help you determine the best fit for you.
For example, I started a forum many years ago, but as an introvert, I quickly realized managing and moderating all the conversation was too stressful. So, I handed it over to someone who loved the social aspect of it.
Also, I like to tackle a project and move on. I don’t like open-ended projects that are ongoing. That’s why I prefer writing and selling an ebook rather than running a membership site.
Take your personality and temperament into account and decide what will work for you.
What’s your season of life?
When I started blogging I was a mom with newborns and toddlers. There was just no way I had the time or energy to devote to an online business. But now my kids are older and it works differently.
It’s true my children are now out of the newborn and toddler stage but we have moved into the spend-your-life-in-the-car stage, chauffeuring people to activities all the live long day. Not to mention the hungry-every-5-minutes stage where they eat as fast as I cook. If it weren’t for my husband’s flexible schedule, I’d have to seriously rethink things.
Think realistically about what’s going on in your life. How much time do you really have to devote to blogging?
What are others in your niche doing?
If you’re still stumped, one of the best ways to figure out what might work for you is to look at well-established bloggers in your niche and take note of the monetization methods they use. If those methods will work with your personality and season of life, start there.

10 Biggest Struggles Of Newbie Bloggers – And How To Deal With Them
June 28, 2017 Susanna Gebauer
88
Share:Pinterest29LinkedIn23Facebook12Google+TwitterEmail
Often when reading blogging success stories, it all sounds so easy and straight forward. And it may even be, once you got your experience and can feed on success. But when you are starting out, there are many struggles bloggers have to face. These struggles are the same for almost any blogger. For one blogger another struggle may be more important than another that is the biggest hurdle for someone else.
But blogging is a struggle when you are starting out. You can make the struggle easier, or conquer them more quickly if you come prepared and learn fast. But struggle you will…
1. Staying motivated
There is so much to do when you are starting out, and there is so much new stuff – and most of the time not very much reward. It is hard to stay focused and keep going when there is not much feedback and visitors to your new blog.
It helps to know beforehand that this phase simply has to be conquered. If you are starting at zero, with no audience, no content, and no knowledge, you will simply need the time to learn and get everything started.
Plus, you are not alone. New blogs don’t start out as thriving places of engagement. Growth can be slow.
Find fellow bloggers who can relate to your problems and feelings. Shared experiences and small successes can help you to find the motivation you need.
2. Not trying to be perfect
Especially when you are starting out, you want to do everything right. But the problem is, if you aim for too much perfection, you will have a hard time getting things done.
Blogging success is not about being perfect. It is about getting started, learning and getting better.
While you want to create awesome content for your audience, 10 finished posts with flaws are bringing you much closer to success than one post that is going to be perfect – once you get it ready.
Keep in mind that no blogger was born a perfect writer or marketer. Looking back we all think we could have done better with some (or almost all) of our earlier posts.
Plus, the little flaws and rough edges are what makes you you and turns your blog into something personal, engaging and inviting!
3. Getting traffic
A blogger usually writes for an audience. But to find that audience is one of the biggest struggles of them all. The magic word is TRAFFIC.
There are many ways to get traffic to a new blog, but all of them either involve growing an audience – or paying for it.
All blogs started small and it takes time to build an audience. But you should not wait it out. Get active – in fact, you can grow an audience for your blog long before you start it or at least before you have a significant amount of content on it.
You should be aware that you need an audience and this audience is not going to magically appear out of the blue. In social media, if you understand the processes of a social network you can actively grow your audience. If you curate content, you can start growing an audience right this minute, even without having one piece of content. Growing an audience will, in the beginning, take at least as much time as writing blog posts. There are methods like guest posting and cooperating with other bloggers that will help you get your blog noticed.
4. Staying active on social media
I really hope that you are not saying: I am a blogger, why are you talking about social media now π
Social networks are some of your most important channels to promote your blog for free! But between setting up your blog, writing posts, creating images and learning all the other things about blogging, keeping your social channels active may seem like an (almost) impossible task.
The solution should be to focus on choosing only 1 or 2 social media channels when you are starting out and focus on understanding how to drive traffic to your blog from them.
Tools will help you tremendously to get these channels running with a minimum of time investment – once you understood how the network functions. Automation is not your enemy, instead, it will help you stay active on social media without spending too much time on repetitive and boring tasks. Just use it with care.
5. Staying patient and not giving up
Rewards for the effort of blogging will be small in the beginning. That is not an easy situation. And many bloggers expect too much too early on.
Many bloggers fail because they simply give up too early. While I don’t recommend to sit back and wait it out, success with blogging, social media marketing, and online activities take time.
Again, I strongly advise you to talk to other bloggers. Join Facebook groups on the topic and share your experience. Talking to people who face the same problems can tremendously help to recognize the small improvements and not give up too early.
6. Creating enough content
When you are a new blogger you need a LOT of content. Some people even advise you to not open your blog before you have at least 10 posts ready so that a reader you get to your blog will already find more than one post.
Personally, I think it is enough if you have a clear idea what your first couple of posts are going to be and set yourself a strict schedule for getting them done. But you need to be absolutely aware before you start with blogging, that at least in the beginning one post per month is simply not going to get you anywhere.
To build a blog and audience for it, you need content on the blog. The channels where you can market your new blog for free demand MORE content all the time. You cannot market a blog with one blog post. And if you write one post per month it will take you by far too long to create the necessary content to grow an audience for your blog.Blogging and writing tips: Read more!

go for easy structures. List posts make creating content easier, or a story with „chapters“ is easier told. And there are other types of posts that will limit your need to writing.
Read a lot. Read some more.
7. Finding the right niche
This one is tough. It is not only about choosing a niche where you have something to say. You also need to find a niche where there is a considerable and reachable audience.
While you should not go for copying a blog niche from another blog, you should do your research and browse around related niches to find out what others do. Read the comments on related posts, join forums or Facebook groups. And talk to people!
Also, once you think you found your niche, make a list of ideas for blog post. If you can only come up with a couple of ideas for posts, chances are high that you will run out of ideas long before your blog has found an audience and picked up traction.
8. Creating everything around the posts: The blog, images, freebies, signup forms etc.
Many aspiring bloggers think blogging is about writing. But blogging is far more. You need to set up your blog and figure out a ton of technical stuff. You have to choose a design and fill it with life. You need images for each post. You need to network and interact. You have to learn about social media marketing and SEO.
There are tools to help you with a lot of things and many of them are for free. Like Canva for creating beautiful images. And if you get stuck: Ask fellow bloggers how they tackled the problem. Because the chances are high that at least some of your fellow bloggers faced exactly the same problem.
9. Not getting frustrated by over-comparing to others
You read all the stories about bloggers whose traffic exploded, who made a ton of money, who live their dream etc. That can be very frustrating when you struggle to create your 10th post that is going to have 10 readers and your to-do list is getting longer by the day.
The truth is: we all love telling success stories. And they sound perfect when we tell them from the perspective from after getting there. That paints a very unrealistic picture.
In reality, most bloggers start with struggles and have a hard time to create enough content and find an audience for that content. Don’t compare your newbie self to your role models and bloggers of many years. Rather talk to others who are starting out. You can grow together, help each other and keep expectations realistic.
10. Not being overwhelmed by everything that is new
When you are starting out everything is new. Don’t try to solve each and every problem at once. Don’t try to start in every social network, try to conquer one at a time. If you are still struggling with creating blog posts, don’t aim for guest blogging (yet). If you find creating images for social media a challenge, start with creating only one or two for the social networks in which you are active.
Keep in mind: Blogging is a journey, not an arrival. It will take some time to get everything sorted – and you need to give yourself that time.
And always remember: enjoy the ride!

How to Build a 6-Figure Blog in Under a Year
jon dykstraNote: Click here to download Jon’s top blog building tips.
Do you know Jon Dykstra from FatStacksBlog.com? I’ve been following his work since last summer and have been really impressed.
(Thanks to Chad from LongerDays for the intro!)
Jon is a former attorney turned full-time entrepreneur, and he’s the master of building high quality niche blogs and monetizing them to $10k-20k per month in record time.
(Sixty days to $10k in one case.)
We’ve covered niche sites in the past, both the “traditional” variety with Spencer Haws and the one-page “micro” variety with Kurt Elster, but the type of sites Jon focuses on are kind of a different animal.
In a way, he sets out to build an authoritative brand in a particular space.
On the call, we use the example of a snow sports site, which in years past may have been considered too broad. Niche down to something like “powder ski reviews,” experts might have said.
Jon takes the opposite approach: broader appeal means more visitors and more ad revenue.

For any blogger who wants to make some passive income with their blog, this list of ideas was really nice. The idea of being a 6 figure blogger in a year may be tough for some but I am sure it can happen. Thank you for sharing!

Jon really has some amazing tips – some which are obvious but taken for granted by many bloggers.
For example putting in the work and publishing consistently and enjoying blogging, sometimes to the extent of using money to grow it (traffic, audience, reach)…and of course patience.
I’ve also checked some of his materials and have learnt from his blog.

Earning this type of income even in 4-5 years of blogging is a dream to many, so he’s clearly knocking it out of the park. Really thrilled to find about these strategies.

Very interesting to hear about someone actively making money delivering impressions. That’s not a model which is easy to sustain — CPM prices continue to drop, ad-blockers are rampant. Are you able to share some of the links his monetized sites? I listened closely, but I didn’t hear any URLs mentioned (and only the “pop culture site” mentioned as a theme.) Also, good to hear Website Magazine is sponsoring the podcast — I’m a longtime subscriber myself and it’s a great publication.

BLOGGER Callie Thorpe was thrilled when one of her bikini photos was included in a swimwear article on Vogue’s website – but her happiness was short lived.
Just days after the size 24 ’20-something’ appeared on the fashion bible’s online pages, she was inundated with hateful abuse.

Callie Thorpe was thrilled to be included in the bikini article
Callie has now opened up about her upsetting experience, and admits that she had hoped being included in the article alongside catwalk models such as Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner was a milestone moment for diversity.
Speaking in an online vlog titled Dealing With Online Abuse, Callie said: “It’s the first time I’ve ever seen Vogue feature any diversity really – especially in regards to size.
“I was really proud of it and I still am really proud.”
The backlash began when Vogue tweeted a link to the article, which Callie eagerly retweeted.
She added: “To all the people that called me fat, ugly and treated me like trash because of my weight growing up, catch me on Vogue with your Woman Crush Wednesday.”
There was huge interest in Callie’s tweet, and she was asked by Yahoo! if she’d like to speak to them about her body positive mindset, and how blogging had helped her love herself.
However, when Callie read the article back, she dipped in to the comments – and discovered almost 1000 cruel comments about her weight.
Explaining on YouTube, Callie said: “I scrolled onto some really nasty comments about me that… They were just so awful that I couldn’t even get them out of my mind.
“There were 900 comments and pretty much all of them were vile – they were violent, abusive comments and it was the worst thing I’ve ever read in the whole five years I’ve been blogging.”

The comment section has now been removed from the article, but Callie claims one of the worst ones was ““Realistically models are meant to be appealing not to make me puke.”
She added: “I couldn’t get it out of my brain. I couldn’t sleep because of some of the things I read about myself.
“I can’t understand how people can be so hateful. I’m very sad at the prospect that people are going through this alone.”
She was also forced to remove the ability to comment on the Instagram picture that was featured in the article.

Basically lays her self open to public opinion then whinges if the opinion is one she doesn't like. You are fat love. You are not everyone's cup of tea. Personally I think you're a bonny lass. However, I do not find you attractive. And yes, it's because of your size. That is my prerogative. As it is yours to parade yourself in your swimwear then cry when you get negative comments.

There are a lot of nasty people out there who seem to get some sort of kick out of saying the most disgusting things, but when you put yourself out there these things are going to happen, you have to be strong and don't late the haters get to you or you may as well stop what you're doing and let them win!!

Some people are small minded brain washed from the media that beauty is like size 6 - you have a beautiful face and only need to lose a bit of weight - skinny models are nothing but walking clothes hangers with shrunken faces and look like famine victims - beauty should be about being a size 12 or 14 with a full up face and a beautiful smile

Who says she needs to feel better about herself? The fact that she shared the bikini pics proves she is happy as she is. What she is addressing here is the inequality that exists surrounding body image and what is seen as attractive vs what is apparently disgusting. Clearly she is a very confident woman, which I applaud, especially when there are so many busybodies out there only too eager to force their opinions on her despite not even knowing her or caring what hurt their comments could cause.

Then if she is going to push her images of her body onto us then she should learn to ignore people's opinions which she should have known that what she was going to get in this day and age. If she feels comfortable in how she is then these comments should not have affected her.
